18 years old is the minimum age to become a firefighter in the United States. Due to the dangerous work, it is a federal law that someone has to be at least 18 years of age. There may be some departments that have "Jr firefighters" or "explorers" that can do many things of a firefighter but they are prohibited from entering a dangerous situation.
