English Major needs help in decision making?

I was a veteran firefighter with 10 years on the job. Last year I had a motorcycle accident. No longer able to function as a firefighter I've been going to school. My first choice was English Teacher. Well, I messed that up. I got in trouble with the law cause I was drinking. Yes, I made a bad choice and deserve to pay for it. A felony on my record is going to keep me out of schools. So, now what? I need some advice. Career counselors and Advisers haven't been able to point me in any direction. I need some real advice. I need to know what career options are still available to me. I want to jump in with both feet and get my life on track. I have a deferred sentence, so my record will be clean again in two years. I only have a year left of school. I was thinking about technical writing. Is there anyone out there with any advice or have you gone through something similar?
