How to become a firefighter?

Hey everyone. I am 20 years old and taking summer classes at my junior college right now. I am still without an officially declared major but if I did it would definately be fire science. From trends that I have seen recently and from what friends have told me, a degree really isnt gonna help you that much. Given this information, what would be the best way to get into a fire academy
