Pre-reqs and physical requirements to become a suburban FIREFIGHTER?

I am currently going to Illinois State for business, but am trying to become a firefighter for a few years out of college. What pre reqs and physical requirements should I prepare for while im in school so i can get right into it? i.e. EMT, mile run test, etc.? THANKS!
